We Are Survivors Christmas Appeal 2024

THIS CHRISTMAS, YOU CAN HELP OUR COMMUNITY HEAL

At Christmas, we all want to feel safe, loved, and supported. But for many men and boys who have experienced sexual abuse, the festive season can amplify the feelings of isolation, pain, and despair that they experience every day. This Christmas, you have the power to make a real difference by supporting our vital work.

1 in 5 victims of rape in greater Manchester are male. This festive season, we are asking for your help to ensure that those men who turn to us for support are not forgotten. Your donation will help provide life-changing services, including:

  • Confidential Counselling – Professional, tailored and compassionate support for survivors at every stage of their healing journey.
  • Safe Spaces – A place for men and boys to talk without fear of judgment, where they can begin to rebuild trust and find hope.
  • Practical Assistance – Legal advice, advocacy, and support services that empower our lads to reclaim their lives.

For someone who has lived through trauma, a simple act of kindness can feel like a lifeline. This Christmas, you can be that lifeline.

“I needed to talk to other men whom I could connect with and share experiences. Talking in the group with like minded men has been freedom just to know that you can be totally honest and not be judged. Listening to other survivors and sharing our journey has helped build my confidence. I am able to see myself as a fighter, a Survivor.”

Why We Need Your Support

Sexual abuse has a profound impact, often leaving deep emotional scars. Many survivors struggle in silence, without the support they need to heal. Our data tells us that the average male spends in excess of 20 years in silence, living with their trauma without support or a safe space to process what they have survived. This holiday season, your generous gift will ensure that we can continue to offer a safe, compassionate space for the 2400 plus men that we support every year. A space where they can begin to recover and find the strength to move forward.

“Meeting my therapist has been a life changing event for me. She has helped me face some very deep-rooted anxieties that have never been addressed in over 50 years. She is knowledgeable and considerate and very professional. We have wrinkled out thoughts and feelings and she has guided me through some very difficult moments. This has given me a future.”

Together We Can Offer Hope

Every pound you donate will go directly to helping men and boys access the critical support they deserve. Whether it’s providing expert trauma-informed therapy, a safe place to talk or a sense of community and belonging, your generosity will have a lasting impact.

This Christmas let’s show survivors that they are not alone. With your help, we can continue to be there for them — not just at Christmas, but throughout the year.

“Sitting in a prison cell with nothing but your thoughts, emotions and memories of abuse can be a very frightening and lonely place. What We Are Survivors do is give the person or prisoner the opportunity to voice their inner issues. They help a person grow into the people they were before the terrible event of abuse. By giving the prisoners a voice, something which was stolen by the perpetrator, it gives us the chance to take that control back, and only then can we start to grow.”
